Cheesy Tuna Casserole

Cheesy Tuna Casserole is a classic comfort food that is perfect for a family meal. It is made with tuna, pasta, cheese, and a creamy sauce. The casserole is then baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

This recipe is for a basic cheesy tuna casserole, but you can add your favorite toppings, such as bacon, chives, or sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni

  • 1 (12-ounce) can tuna, drained and rinsed

  • 1 (10.75-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

  • 1/4 cup chopped celery

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, combine tuna, cream of mushroom soup, milk, cheddar cheese, onion, celery, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  4. Add macaroni to the tuna mixture and stir to combine.

  5. Pour tuna mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

  6. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

  7. Serve immediately.

Tips

  • For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.

  • To make ahead, prepare the tuna mixture as directed and cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pour tuna mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and bake for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • To make vegan, use vegan tuna, vegan cream of mushroom soup, and vegan cheese.

Here is a story about how I came up with the Cheesy Tuna Casserole recipe:

I grew up eating cheesy tuna casserole, and it's always been one of my favorite comfort foods. I remember my mom making it for us on cold winter nights, and it always made me feel warm and cozy.

I've made cheesy tuna casserole many times over the years, and I've learned a few things along the way. First, it's important to use good quality tuna. I like to use albacore tuna, as it has a richer flavor.

Second, don't overcook the macaroni. It should be tender when bitten into, but it should still be firm.

Finally, don't be afraid to experiment with different toppings. I like to add bacon, chives, and sour cream to my cheesy tuna casserole, but you can use whatever toppings you like.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
