Killer Lasagna



Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that is loved by people of all ages. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. This recipe for Killer Lasagna is easy to make and always a hit with guests.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce

  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato paste

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese

  • 1 (10-ounce) package spinach, thawed and squeezed dry

  • 1 (10-ounce) package mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • 12 lasagna noodles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.

  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.

  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

  5. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, spinach, and 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese.

  6. Spread 1 cup of the sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.

  7. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.

  8. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.

  9. Top with 1 cup of the sauce.

  10. Repeat layers.

  11. Top with the remaining 3 lasagna noodles.

  12. Spread the remaining sauce over the noodles.

  13. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.

  14. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  15. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • For a more intense tomato flavor, use San Marzano tomatoes.

  • To make the lasagna even more flavorful, add 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce.

  • If you don't have spinach, you can substitute other vegetables, such as mushrooms, zucchini, or eggplant.

  • To make the lasagna ahead of time, assemble the lasagna up to the point of baking. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, remove the lasagna from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
