Moose Sloppy Joes



Moose is a delicious and lean meat that is perfect for sloppy joes. This recipe is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. I like to add a little bit of hot sauce and extra brown sugar for a bit of a kick.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground moose

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1-2 dashes hot sauce (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon spicy prepared mustard

  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the moose over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.

  2. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Stir in the brown sugar, hot sauce, mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

  4. Serve over hamburger buns.

Tips:

  • For a spicier sloppy joe, add more hot sauce.

  • For a sweeter sloppy joe, add more brown sugar.

  • To make your own barbecue sauce, combine 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon onion powder. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, or until thickened.

  • Serve sloppy joes with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, pickles, onions, and tomatoes.
