I'm a big fan of sweet and sour meatballs, and I've tried a lot of different recipes over the years. But my favorite by far is Windy's Sweet and Sour Meatballs.
Windy is a friend of mine who is a great cook. She makes these meatballs for every potluck or party, and they're always the first to go.
The meatballs are made with a simple mixture of ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, and seasonings. But the real magic is in the sauce. It's a sweet and sour sauce that is perfectly balanced and full of flavor.
The meatballs are cooked in the sauce until they're golden brown and cooked through. Then they're served over rice or noodles.
These meatballs are so good, they're sure to become a new favorite in your household.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup bread crumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
In a large skillet, brown the meatballs over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, and cornstarch.
Pour the sauce over the meatballs and bring to a simmer.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the meatballs are cooked through.
Serve over rice or noodles.
Tips:
For a spicier meatball, add a dash of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
For a sweeter meatball, add a tablespoon of honey to the sauce.
To make your own bread crumbs, simply tear up stale bread into small pieces.
To make the meatballs ahead of time, brown them and then freeze them. When you're ready to eat, thaw the meatballs and then simmer them in the sauce until they're heated through.
Serve the meatballs with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, chopped green onions, or a dollop of sour cream.
Story:
I first tried Windy's Sweet and Sour Meatballs at a potluck party. I was immediately hooked by the sweet and sour sauce. The meatballs were perfectly cooked and juicy, and the sauce was the perfect balance of sweet and sour.
I asked Windy for the recipe, and she was happy to share it with me. I've been making them ever since, and they're always a hit with my family and friends.
If you're looking for a delicious and easy meatball recipe, I highly recommend giving Windy's Sweet and Sour Meatballs a try. They're sure to become a new favorite in your household.
