I'm not sure who came up with the name "Johnny Depp in a Bundt Pan" for this cake, but I love it! It's a rich, chocolatey cake that's perfect for a special occasion. The coffee in the cake gives it a bit of a kick, and the chocolate ganache frosting is the perfect finishing touch.
This cake is not difficult to make, but it does require a few steps. The first step is to make the cake batter. This is a simple batter that is made with all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and baking powder.
Once the batter is made, it is poured into a greased and floured Bundt pan. The cake is then baked in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
While the cake is baking, you can make the chocolate ganache frosting. This is a simple frosting that is made with chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter. The chocolate chips are melted in the heavy cream over low heat, and then the butter is added and stirred until the frosting is smooth.
Once the cake is cooled, it is frosted with the chocolate ganache. The cake can then be served immediately, or it can be stored in the refrigerator for later.
Here is the recipe for Johnny Depp in a Bundt Pan (A.k.a. Black Russian Cake):
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup strong coffee, cooled
For the chocolate ganache frosting:
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup butter
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a Bundt pan.
In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, oil, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in coffee.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cake cool completely in pan before removing.
To make chocolate ganache frosting, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until melted and smooth.
Add butter to chocolate ganache and stir until melted and smooth.
Pour chocolate ganache frosting over cooled cake and spread evenly.
Serve immediately or store in refrigerator for later.
Tips:
For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
If you don't have a Bundt pan, you can bake the cake in a 9x13 inch baking pan. Just be sure to increase the baking time to 35-40 minutes.
The chocolate ganache frosting can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Just let it come to room temperature before frosting the cake.
This cake is best served the same day it is made. However, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Enjoy!
