Lofthouse Sugar Cookies

Lofthouse sugar cookies are a classic holiday treat. They're soft, chewy, and full of flavor. The best part is, they're so easy to make at home!

I first tried Lofthouse cookies when I was a kid. My mom would always buy them for Christmas, and I would devour them as soon as they were out of the oven. I loved the way they were soft and chewy, with a slightly crispy edge. And the frosting was always the perfect amount of sweet and creamy.

As I got older, I started to experiment with making Lofthouse cookies at home. I tried a few different recipes, but I never quite got the results I was looking for. They were always too dry, or too hard, or the frosting didn't taste right.

Finally, I found a recipe that I absolutely love. It's the perfect balance of soft, chewy, and crispy. And the frosting is so good, you'll want to eat it with a spoon!

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Frosting:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • Assorted sprinkles, for decoration (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  4. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out cookies with desired shapes and sizes.

  6. Place the cookies on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden brown.

  7. Let the cookies cool completely before frosting.

  8. To make the frosting, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla extract and milk until smooth.

  9. Frost the cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles, if desired.

  10. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use real butter instead of margarine.

  • Don't overmix the dough, or the cookies will be tough.

  • Chilling the dough before baking helps to prevent the cookies from spreading too much.

  • If you don't have a cookie cutter, you can use a glass or a measuring cup to cut out the cookies.

  • The frosting can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

  • The cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

I hope you enjoy this recipe for Lofthouse sugar cookies! They're the perfect treat for any occasion.
