Mashed potatoes are a classic side dish that is perfect for any meal. But sometimes, the traditional mashed potatoes can be a bit boring. That's why I'm sharing this new recipe for mashed potatoes that is sure to spice things up!
This recipe uses a few unique ingredients that give the mashed potatoes a delicious flavor and texture. The first ingredient is sour cream. Sour cream adds a richness and creaminess to the mashed potatoes that you won't find with regular milk or cream. The second ingredient is bacon. Bacon adds a smoky flavor and a bit of crunch to the mashed potatoes. And the third ingredient is chives. Chives add a fresh, herbal flavor that really rounds out the dish.
To make these new mashed potatoes, you'll start by boiling the potatoes until they are soft. Then, you'll mash them with butter, sour cream, bacon, chives, and salt and pepper to taste. The key to making these mashed potatoes really special is to not overmix them. Overmixing will make the mashed potatoes tough and gluey. Instead, you want to mash them until they are smooth and creamy, but still have a bit of a lumpy texture.
Once the mashed potatoes are mashed, you can serve them immediately or you can keep them warm in a low oven until you are ready to serve. These mashed potatoes are delicious on their own, but they are also great as a side dish for a variety of main dishes. I like to serve them with roasted chicken or steak.
Here's what you need:
6 large russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
1/4 cup chives, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until they are soft when pierced with a fork.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, sour cream, bacon, chives, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy, but still have a bit of a lumpy texture.
Serve immediately or keep warm in a low oven until you are ready to serve.
Tips:
For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of regular butter.
To make a gluten-free version of this recipe, use gluten-free flour.
To make a dairy-free version of this recipe, use vegan butter and dairy-free sour cream.
Variations:
Try adding other herbs to the mashed potatoes, such as rosemary, thyme, or sage.
Add a layer of shredded cheese to the top of the mashed potatoes before serving.
Serve the mashed potatoes with a dollop of sour cream or gravy.
Enjoy!
