The Frugal Gourmet's Southern Barbecue Sauce

The Best Beef Stroganoff

I've always been a sucker for comfort food. There's just something about a warm, hearty dish that can make everything feel better. And one of my all-time favorite comfort foods is beef stroganoff.

I first tried beef stroganoff when I was a kid. My mom made it for me one night, and I was instantly hooked. The creamy sauce, the tender beef, and the chewy noodles were all so delicious. I've been making beef stroganoff ever since.

There are many different recipes for beef stroganoff, but my favorite is a simple one that I learned from my mom. It's made with just a few ingredients, but it's always packed with flavor.

Here is my recipe for beef stroganoff:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 pound egg noodles

Instructions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned on all sides.

  2. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to coat.

  4. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream.

  5. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

  6. Stir in the sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.

  7. Cook for an additional minute, or until heated through.

  8. Serve over egg noodles.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality beef sirloin for the best flavor.

  • Don't overcook the beef, or it will be tough.

  • If you don't have beef broth, you can use water or chicken broth.

  • If you don't have heavy cream, you can use half-and-half or milk.

  • Serve beef stroganoff immediately, or it will become thick and gloopy.

Enjoy!

Here are some additional tips and tricks for making beef stroganoff:

  • If you want a more flavorful sauce, you can add a pinch of dried thyme or rosemary to the sauce.

  • You can also add other vegetables to the sauce, such as mushrooms or carrots.

  • Beef stroganoff is traditionally served with egg noodles, but you can also serve it with rice or mashed potatoes.

  • Beef stroganoff is a great dish to make ahead of time. Simply cook the beef and sauce, then let it cool completely. Store the beef and sauce in separate containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to serve, reheat the beef and sauce in a skillet over medium heat until heated through.

I hope you enjoy this recipe for beef stroganoff! It's a delicious and easy-to-make dish that's perfect for a cold winter night.
